What are phrases? Phrases can be idioms or expressions that usually have a cultural meaning behind them. For instance most idioms you may hear contain some underlying principles and values. Here are some common examples of idioms and expressions. ‘A piece of cake’– something is very easy. “The test was a piece of cake.” ‘See eye to eye’ – this means agreeing with someone. “They finally saw eye to eye on the deal.” ‘To feel under the weather’ – to not feel well. “I’m really feeling under the weather; I have a terrible cold.” In these examples the phrases (idioms) are in bold.
