What is a participle? Participles are verb forms that can be used as adjectives, nouns or as part of a compound verb tenses. There are 3 types of participles: present participle (ending -ing), past participle (ending -ed, -d, -t, -en, or -n) and the perfect participle. Present participle: I am running on the road. Past participle: He jumped over the stream. Perfect participle: I have been to Sri Lanka. In these examples the participles are in bold. Check out our participles infographic below.
