Types of Conjunctions in English: What is a Conjunction?
There are three types of conjunctions in English grammar. The 3 types are: coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions and correlative conjunctions. Conjunctions are parts of speech that join two or more sentences. The most famous acronym for coordinating conjunctions is F-A-N-B-O-Y-S. For subordinating conjunctions we can use: I SAW A WABUB. Conjunction Sentence Examples

- Coordinating Conjunctions: FANBOYS = For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So
- Tom and I will go to school.
- I like bananas but I perfer apples.
- I don't play baseball, nor do I play badminton.
- Subordinating Conjunctions: I SAW A WABUB = If, Since, As, When, Although, While, After, Before, Until, Because
- Other subordinating conjunctions include: as soon as, by the time, even if, even though, every time, in case, now that, once, so that, than, the first time, unless, whenever, whether or not, why
- I will come after my dinner.
- Although I failed my driving test three times, I passed the fourth time.
- We will stay until your parents arrive.
- Correlative Conjunctions: as/as, both/and, either/or, hardly/when, if/then, just as/so, neither/nor, not only/but also, no sooner/than, not/but, rather/than, scarcely/when, what with/and, whether/or
- He is both kind and humble.
- I hardly play football when I join this team.
- I not only like the pancakes at this restaurant, but also the waffles.
